This is a one-time change. Once you set it, Plex will remember it for every video you watch.

How to set it up

  1. Open the Plex app on your Xbox One.
  2. From the home screen, go to Settings at the bottom of the sidebar.
  3. Choose Video settings.
  4. Set Local Quality to Original.
  5. Set Remote Quality to Original.
  6. Check the Allow Direct Play and Allow Direct Stream boxes.
  7. Back out of settings — you’re done.
Why does this help?

By default, Plex sometimes re-encodes video before sending it to your TV, which can lower the quality and cause buffering. Setting quality to Original tells Plex to send the file as-is, which means better picture and smoother playback when your device supports the format.

Still not working?

If you still see low quality or buffering after changing these settings, the video file itself may be in a format the Xbox One can't play natively. In that case, Plex has to re-encode it regardless of your settings. Let your Plex admin know.
